In October 1997, my beloved Yeti (a tortoiseshell "moggie") died at the ripe old age of 21. I desperately wanted to have a tortie again, and the only way I could get one was to buy a pedigree British Black Tortie. David, my husband, and I travelled all the way to York in December 1997, to look at what appeared to be the only one available in the Country at that time. We took one look at 'Daisy' and were instantly smitten! - What a sweet, purry bundle! Daisy has had four litters of wonderful kittens, she was neutered in June 2005 and enjoys herself just pottering about and mothering her surrogate babies. I kept two kittens from Daisy's first litter to UK Gr Ch Miletree Owain Glyndwr, PR HINDERSLYNE DUNCAN ZABUGGA is a wonderful black boy who crowned his Show career by becoming best British Neuter at the Black & White Cat Club Show 2004 and 2007. Sadly, we lost him in October 2007 and his passing has left a huge empty place in my heart. HINDERSLYNE BLUEBELLE had three wonderful litters of kittens, the last being in 2003, then motherhood eluded her, so she was neutered in May 2005 and she too potters around, becoming surrogate 'mum' to any other kittens.
Purrly, (SCORPIO LEOPARDSONG) is a brown spotted Bengal, she was born in 1997 and is a much loved pet. She has a sweet nature, and unlike most Bengal cats, she prefers to stay inside, though she can out into the garden whenever she wants. She is very noisy when kittens are around, but she is 'all talk'.

The probable direct ancestor of the cat evolved about 23 million years ago and was a small (present day cat-sized) mammal. The present day cat Family evolved about 12 thousand years ago, with three genera (groups). The smallest Genus is Acinonyx of which only the Cheetah survives. The next Genus is Panthera, which includes all the 'big cats' such as lion, tiger and leopard. The Genus with the largest number of species is Felis, which has about 40 species of small wild cats, and the domestic cat.
Our fireside cat was domesticated about 4 thousand years ago, which, in evolutionary terms is only a short while, compared to dogs and horses which have been domesticated for well over 10 thousand years.
The British Shorthair breed originated in the early 1900's through mating an 'alley cat' with a pedigree Persian. The lush thick coat, cobby body, round eyes and loving temperament are charactertistic of the breed
